Gucci: il nuovo direttore creativo è Sabato De Sarno

A due mesi dall’addio di Alessandro Michele, il gruppo Kering ha proclamato Sabato De Sarno al timone della casa di moda fiorentina «con la responsabilità di definire ed esprimere la visione creativa della maison attraverso le collezioni donna, uomo, pelletteria, accessori e lifestyle», ha affermato Marco Bizzarri, ceo di Gucci.

Il designer già può vantare una notevole carriera alle spalle. Dall’ufficio stile di Prada, passando per Dolce & Gabbana, è approdato da Valentino nel 2009 conquistando il rilevante ruolo di Fashion Director per le collezioni prêt-à-porter maschili e femminili.

«Sono profondamente onorato di assumere il ruolo di Direttore Creativo di Gucci. Sono orgoglioso di entrare a far parte di una Maison con una storia e un patrimonio straordinari, che nel corso degli anni ha saputo accogliere e custodire valori in cui credo. Sono emozionato ed entusiasta di dare il mio contributo al brand attraverso la mia visione creativa», ha dichiarato il direttore creativo nel comunicato stampa.

De Sarno debutterà in autunno a Milano con la sua prima collezione donna. Non ci resta che attendere per conoscere la nuova identità del marchio, che oramai sembrava esser stato definitivamente consacrato dall’inconfondibile universo artistico di Alessandro Michele.

Nasce la Vivienne Westwood Foundation

Con la scomparsa di Vivienne Westwood lo scorso 29 dicembre è stato annunciato il progetto no-profit ideato dalla designer britannica nel 2019: The Vivienne Westwood Foundation.

La fondazione supporta quattro pilastri fondamentali: il cambiamento climatico, lo stop alla guerra, la difesa dei diritti umani e le proteste contro il capitalismo, con lo scopo di “onorare, proteggere e portare avanti l’eredità di Vivienne, della sua vita e del suo attivismo”.

Vivienne Westwood non è stata solo la stilista anticonformista che da un piccolo negozio londinese in King’s Road, fondato con il compagno e allora manager dei Sex Pistols Malcolm McLaren, ha avvicinato la moda al movimento punk; o colei che ha contribuito a scardinare l’Haute Couture da ‘cosa intangibile’ pensata per pochi ad atto sovversivo fruibile a un pubblico più ampio. La designer è stata una figura attiva anche nei diritti umani e dell’ambiente. Ha collaborato con diverse ONG, donato e raccolto fondi. Ha inaugurato la “Climate Revolution” alla cerimonia di chiusura delle Paralimpiadi di Londra e condotto campagne con associazioni di beneficenza, per sottolineare solo alcuni dei suoi fondamentali contributi al cambiamento.

Jonathan Anderson disegnerà i costumi per il prossimo film di Luca Guadagnino

Il film si intitolerà “Queer”, dal romanzo breve di William Burroughs pubblicato nel 1985, che tratta di un amore non corrisposto tra il protagonista “Lee” e un turista di nome Allerton in viaggio a Panama.

Ad annunciare la notizia è stato il designer Jonathan Anderson, nonché direttore creativo del brand Loewe, dal suo profilo Instagram, entusiasta per questa seconda collaborazione che recentemente lo ha visto impegnato nel ruolo di costumista per un altro film di Guadagnino: “Challengers”, in uscita il 23 agosto.

Su questa nuova pellicola ancora non abbiamo molti dettagli, né tantomeno una data di uscita, ma sarà interessante vedere come il designer riuscirà ad integrare la sua estetica cult fatta di elementi surrealisti che indagano armonicamente l’universo maschile e quello femminile, nei costumi che indosseranno Daniel Craig e Drew Starkey.

Il futuro distopico di 44 Label Group per la FW23

Dal titolo “Blame Society”, la nuova collezione è stata presentata in pieno stile 44 Label Group. Uno scenario esaltato da un bianco asettico e desolato è interrotto dalla presenza di un terriccio sovrastato da rifiuti: una protesta contro il consumismo, l’esperienza urbana dispersiva e un’inclinazione all’animo rave del brand. Sono gli elementi dominanti della collezione a rievocare l’immaginario berlinese della club culture, come tessuti robusti e denim grigi slavati dai lavaggi scoloriti. Mentre gli accessori futuristici silver indagano la società post-industriale dominata dai dispositivi digitali.

È morto Paco Rabanne, il pioniere della “Space Age”

Il designer spagnolo è scomparso venerdì all’età di 88 anni.

Negli anni sessanta veniva definito ‘lo stilista che viveva nel futuro’, un pioniere della Space Age Couture insieme agli stilisti André Courregès e Pierre Cardin.

Quando era bambino la madre lavorava presso l’atelier di Cristóbal Balenciaga. La moda era già nel suo DNA, ma voleva lasciare un segno a suo modo. Decide di intraprendere gli studi in architettura per poi iniziare negli anni cinquanta a creare accessori per stilisti del tempo tra cui Dior, Givency e Charles Jourdan.

Determinato a lanciare una sua casa di moda, nel 1966 presentava dodici abiti all’Hotel Georges V di Parigi. Si trattava di creazioni sperimentali, realizzate con tessuti sconosciuti. Perché non era di tessuti che si trattava. La collezione si intitolava: “Dodici Vestiti Immettibili Creati Con Materiali Contemporanei”.

Fogli di alluminio, rhodoid, plexiglas, carta e plastica, venivano messi insieme da Rabanne per mezzo di anelli e fili metallici o d’acciaio, come vere opere d’assemblage. Coco Chanel lo ha ribattezzato “il metallurgico della moda”.

athom”: la campagna underwater di Del Core

Il brand milanese fondato da Daniel Del Core svela la nuova campagna adv per presentare la collezione andata in scena lo scorso settembre 2022, con degli scatti firmati dalla fotografa Charlotte Wales. Le pose dinamiche richiamano il design fluido degli abiti scultorei pensati per la stagione SS23, drappeggiati dalle luci colorate dei fondali. Gli effetti visivi dominati dal blu degli abissi ricordano la teatrale magia del mondo sottomarino.

Francesco Risso sceglie Tokyo per presentare la nuova collezione di Marni

Dopo una prima tappa itinerante a New York, Francesco Risso è volato a Tokyo per presentare Marni Vol.2 FW23. La location non è stata una scelta casuale. Si è trattato della palestra Yoyogi Daini n.2, uno dei due edifici progettati da Kenzo Tange in previsione delle Olimpiadi di Tokyo del 1964, che, simbolicamente, ricorda il DUMBO, il quartiere incastonato tra il Brooklyn e il Manhattan Bridge che ha ospitato la collezione Primavera Estate.

La scenografia, scandita dalle eleganti sinfonie della Tokyo Chamber Orchestra, ha visto succedersi look disincantati, dettati dall’estetica massimale e fiabesca del designer. Il colore giallo ed il rosso dominano la collezione, linee piene e trame geometriche, era in equilibrato contrasto con il bianco ottico dell’ambiente circostante.

La collaborazione di Jean Paul Gaultier e Haider Ackermann

Haider Ackermann ha fatto ritorno sulle passerelle parigine come guest della collezione haute couture Spring 2023 di Jean Paul Gaultier.Quando si dice “gli opposti si attraggono”, eccone un esempio di successo. La collaborazione tra i due pionieri del fashion echeggia armonicamente l’identità melanconica di Haider Ackermann, risaltata da linee pulite, drappeggi e un tailoring essenziale, e l’estetica d’avanguardia e multi-sfaccettata di Gaultier, fatta di elementi irriverenti traghettati da un’anima punk dai mille contrasti.

L’heritage intramontabile dei due brand è stato scandito da una standing ovation sul finale da parte di personalità come Tilda Swinton e Carla Bruni.

Gucci: the new creative director is Sabato De Sarno

Two months after Alessandro Michele’s farewell, the Kering group proclaimed Sabato De Sarno as the new fashion house’s creative director «with the responsibility for defining and expressing the House’s creative vision across the women’s, men’s, leather goods, accessories and lifestyle collections» reporting CEO Marco Bizzarri.

De Sarno can already boast a remarkable career behind. From Prada, moving to Dolce & Gabbana, in 2009 he assumed the relevant role of Fashion Director at Valentino, for men’s and women’s prêt-à-porter collections.

“I am deeply honored to take on the role as Creative Director of Gucci. I am proud to join a House with such an extraordinary history and heritage, that over the years has been able to welcome and cherish values I believe in. I am touched and excited to contribute my creative vision for the brand”, said the designer in the press release.

De Sarno will debut next September during Milan Fashion Week with his first women’s collection. We just have to wait to get to know the new identity of Gucci, which by far seemed to have been definitively consecrated by Alessandro Michele’s unmistakable artistic universe.

The Vivienne Westwood Foundation launch

With the death of Vivienne Westwood on last December 29th, the non-profit project created by the British designer in 2019 was launched: The Vivienne Westwood Foundation.

The foundation supports four fundamental pillars: halt climate change, stop war, defend human rights and protest capitalism, with the aim of “honoring, protecting and carrying forward the legacy of Vivienne, her life and his activism”.

Vivienne Westwood was not only the nonconformist designer who, from a small London shop in King’s Road founded with her partner and then manager of the Sex Pistols Malcolm McLaren, brought fashion closer to the punk movement, but also the one to unhinging haute couture from an ‘intangible thing’ designed for a few to a subversive act usable by a wider audience. She was an active figure in human and environmental rights. She has collaborated with various NGOs, donating and raising funds. She ushered in the ‘Climate Revolution’ at the closing ceremony of the London Paralympics and campaigned with charities. Highlighting just a few of his contributions to change.

Jonathan Anderson will be the costume designer for Luca Guadagnino’s new film

The film will be titled “Queer”, inspired by William Burroughs’s short novel published in 1985, which deals with an unrequited love between the protagonist called “Lee” and a tourist named Allerton traveling in Panama.

The news was announced from Jonathan Anderson’s IG profile, so enthusiastic about this second collaboration which recently saw him engaged for another Guadagnino’s film “Challengers” (out on August 23rd).

We still don’t have a release date on this new film. Anyway, it will be interesting to see how the designer manages to integrate his cult aesthetic made of surrealist elements in the costumes that Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey will wear.

The dystopian future of 44 Label Group for the FW23

“Blame Society” is the new collection presented by 44 Label Group. The scenario enhanced by an aseptic white is interrupted by the presence of a soil overlaid by waste. It’s a protest against consumerism, the dispersive urban experience and an inclination to the rave soul of the brand.

The dominant elements of this collection evoke Berlin’s club culture such as robust fabrics and gray denim washed out by faded nuances. Instead, the futuristic silver accessories investigate the post-industrial society dominated by digital devices.

Paco Rabanne, the pioneer of Space-Age has died

The Spanish designer passed away yesterday at 88.

In the Sixties he brought the future into the present. Paco Rabanne was a pioneer of Space-Age couture alongside couturiers André Courregès and Pierre Cardin.

When he was a child, his mother worked at Cristóbal Balenciaga’s atelier. Fashion was already in his DNA, but he wanted to make his mark. He decides to study architecture and then, in the 50s, starts creating accessories for designers including Dior, Givency and Charles Jourdan.

Determined to launch his own couture brand, in 1966 he presented twelve dresses at Hotel Georges V, Paris. These were experimental creations made with unknown fabrics, because it wasn’t fabrics that were involved. The collection was entitled: “Twelve Immittable Dresses Created With Contemporary Materials”.

Sheets of aluminum, rhodoid, Plexiglas, paper and plastic were put together by Rabanne using metal or steel rings and wires like real assemblage works. Coco Chanel called him “the metallurgist of fashion”.

“Fathom”: introducing Del Core’s underwater campaign

The brand founded by Daniel Del Core unveils the new adv campaign to present the collection photographer by Charlotte Wales. The dynamic poses recall the fluid design of the sculptural dresses designed for the SS23 draped by the colored lights of the backdrops. The visual effects dominated by the blue of the abyss are reminiscent of underwater world.

Francesco Risso chooses Tokyo to present the new Marni collection

After a first journey to New York, Francesco Risso flew to Tokyo to show Marni Vol.2 FW23.

The location was not a random choice. The Yoyogi Daini gym n.2 is one of the two buildings designed by Kenzo Tange for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. Symbolically, it recalls DUMBO, the neighborhood nestled between the Brooklyn and the Manhattan Bridges which hosted the Spring Summer collection.

The scenography, over the elegant symphonies of Tokyo Chamber Orchestra, presented a succession of disenchanted looks dictated by the designer’s maximal and fairy-tale aesthetic. The collection, dominated by vitamin colors, full lines and geometric textures, was in perfect contrast with the optical white of the surrounding environment.

Haider Ackermann x Jean Paul Gaultier

Haider Ackermann returned among Parisian catwalks as a guest of Jean Paul Gaultier’s Spring 2023 haute couture collection.

People say “opposites attract”: here’s a successful example. The collaboration between the two pioneers of fashion harmoniously echoes the melancholic identity of Haider Ackermann, highlighted by clean lines, drapes and an essential tailoring. On the other hand, the avant-garde and multi-faceted aesthetics of Gaultier, made up of irreverent elements punk soul of a thousand contrasts.

The timeless heritage of the two brands was punctuated by a standing ovation from well-known personalities such as Tilda Swinton and Carla Bruni when the runway ended.
