The UFO stage at Dekmantel Festival has always felt like stepping into another dimension. It’s a space where raw energy collides with the unknown, where harder, darker, and experimental techno finds a home. Since its inception in 2016, the UFO series has mirrored this spirit on record, pushing the boundaries of electronic music with each release. After a pause that left fans wondering about its future, UFO is back—and it’s not just returning; it’s evolving.

The series emerges with a fresh visual identity crafted by designer Jonathan Castro and a sharper focus on innovation, promising to chart the outer limits of club music once again. It’s a bold move that feels quintessentially Dekmantel: grounded in respect for techno’s roots yet unafraid to venture into uncharted territory.

The rebirth begins with a pair of simultaneous EP releases that set the tone for the journey ahead.

Wata Igarashi’s Kaleidoscopic is a shimmering, four-track exploration of crystalline techno. Its ethereal arpeggios and subtle acid inflections create a dreamlike atmosphere, where every sound feels meticulously sculpted yet boundless. Igarashi’s music doesn’t just fill a space—it transforms it, drawing listeners into a delicate, transcendent sonic realm.

On the other side of this spectrum is Piezo’s Ecstatic Nostalgia, a frenetic yet introspective take on modern club sounds. The Italian producer pulls from UK bass and dub influences, weaving them into a fast-paced, kinetic tapestry. Heavy and mischievous, the EP pulses with an experimental energy that feels both urgent and playful, a reflection of techno’s evolving identity in real time.

Together, these releases showcase what UFO is all about: dualities and contrasts, the familiar and the unexpected, all coexisting within the same universe.

Label manager Olf van Elden describes it best: “By dividing things this way, we can introduce some differentiation while continuing to release both techno and house, along with many other genres. Both sides of Dekmantel are equally important to us—and they can coexist harmoniously.”

This ethos reflects what Dekmantel has always done so well: curating spaces where creativity thrives, whether on a festival stage or a sublabel release.

The future of UFO is as exciting as its present. With upcoming releases planned for 2025 from artists like Broken English Club and Quelza, the series is poised to continue its tradition of challenging norms and expanding the possibilities of techno.

For now, Kaleidoscopic and Ecstatic Nostalgia offer a taste of what’s to come. Both EPs are now available on streaming platforms and Bandcamp, ready to be discovered by those eager to immerse themselves in Dekmantel’s ever-expanding universe.

Dekmantel’s UFO is back, and it’s taking us further than ever before. This marks the next chapter of a legacy.
